vari architects 几里建筑

Based in Chongqing, vari architects develops creative workspaces and cultural pavilions marked by sharp tectonic contrasts, where cantilevered concrete structures and luminous glazed bridges articulate the tension between historic masonry and modern transparent inserts. This work offers a strong reference when detailing light-capturing ceiling cutouts around mature site trees or when designing glazed circulation bridges that cleanly span the void between aged brick facades and contemporary structural cores.

Elevated concrete and metal-clad pavilion by vari architects set among mature trees and a reflective pond in Chongqing.

A pavilion by vari architects that demonstrates elevated massing on pilotis, integrating contemporary metal-clad architecture with a lush landscape and water body.

What we like about this project
The upper volume cantilevers dramatically over open-air social spaces framed by slender pilotis.

Geometry
An elevated orthogonal mass sits on pilotis overlooking a sloped landscape and water body, featuring random punched window arrangements.
Facade system
Perforated or vertical-slat metal panel cladding over an insulated wall with sporadic punched window openings.
Structural guess
Reinforced concrete pilotis supporting an upper steel or composite framing system.
Spatial scale
Two-story elevated building volume floating above a human-scaled garden and pathway network.
Lighting
Bright direct daylight casting soft shadows through surrounding mature deciduous trees.
Atmosphere
Serene and airy, blending industrial lightness of the elevated volume with natural greenery and water reflections.
Environmental context
Lush park or campus setting featuring a natural pond, graded sloping lawns, and heavy tree canopy.
Spatial experience
Approaching across the water or winding paths leads underneath the shaded piloti zone before emerging into elevated views of the canopy.
Composition rhythm
Asymmetrical horizontal massing contrasted with the vertical rhythm of surrounding tree trunks and structural pilotis.
