FLIP studio 番番營作

Based in Shanghai, FLIP studio 番番營作 designs retail showrooms, cafes, and art spaces marked by expressive tectonic contrasts, pairing kinetic gridded partitions and raw, sculptural geometries with delicate woven elements and striking structural accents. The work serves as a strong reference when detailing large-scale operable interior enclosures, integrating custom structural bracing into retail display systems, or negotiating delicate spatial insertions beneath heavy concrete building shells.

A temporary retail pop-up pavilion precedent demonstrating how lightweight fabric panels and modular metal framing create an inviting, permeable enclosure beneath heavy concrete infrastructure.

What we like about this project
The entire delicate tent structure is sheltered directly underneath the massive, brutalist-scale concrete portico of an existing building.

Geometry
Low-slung rectangular pavilion constructed beneath a heavy concrete structural overhang, utilizing a modular post-and-beam frame system.
Facade system
Tensioned pale fabric banners and solid branded panels hung from a visible exterior frame.
Structural guess
Modular steel or aluminum tubular framing bolted to a raised platform base.
Spatial scale
Single-story temporary pavilion scaled to human reach, sitting compactly within a larger double-height plaza.
Lighting
Bright ambient daylight filtered through pale fabric canopies and overhead building structures.
Atmosphere
Bright, airy, and ephemeral against a monumental concrete backdrop.
Environmental context
Outdoor paved plaza beneath a massive elevated concrete building soffit, surrounded by tall tropical palms.
Spatial experience
The enclosure reads as a light, permeable tent-like pavilion that contrasts sharply with the massive stone and concrete urban surrounding.
Composition rhythm
Frequent vertical green posts paired with suspended fabric planes create a rhythmic, porous perimeter.
